The Department
The Department of Finance and Administration (Finance) is one of the Australian Government's central agencies. Essentially this means that Finance, along with the Departments of the Treasury and the Prime Minister and Cabinet, are the organisations that manage Australia's finances on behalf of the Australian Government.
In Finance, we coordinate the Budget, oversee asset sales, advise on public sector governance issues and prepare whole-of-government financial reports. We deal with the Government's superannuation, insurance and property issues. Finance also provides advice to the Government on the performance of its business enterprises.
We analyse and provide advice on the financial implications of public policy issues that face the nation, from health and families to education and industry, from defence and foreign policy to investments in government operations. We also provide professional support services to Senators, Members and their staff to facilitate the business of government.

assisting the Government to meet its fiscal objectives through activities such as preparing the Australian Government Budget and whole-of-government financial reports.

developing whole-of-government frameworks and strategies, providing advice to drive increased efficiencies and managing several businesses on a commercial basis.
3. An efficiently functioning Parliament –
providing professional support services and infrastructure for Members of Parliament and their staff.
