Our Vision
“For anyone, anywhere, to have immediate access to quality healthcare advice”
Our Promise
McKesson’s promise is “Better Healthcare Every Time” which encapsulates our commitment
to quality services provision and positive health outcomes every time we interact with
the communities we service.
Our Background and Services
McKesson Asia-Pacific is the leading provider of high quality telephone-based healthcare
throughout Australia and New Zealand.
With over 500 staff, we employ health professionals, including nurses, social workers
and psychologists, to provide a range of health advice programs for state and national
governments, area health services and district health boards, private healthcare
providers and health insurers. Our offices are based in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth,
Wellington and Auckland.
Our Programs
McKesson clinical staff handle more than 1 million calls per year from the community, in the areas of:
-
Telephone triage (health advice and referral)
Advising the appropriate level of care
Telephone triage is conducting a telephone interview to assess the urgency and
severity of the patient’s symptoms.
During the telephone triage process, McKesson staff use sophisticated, computerised
decision support protocols to make patient assessments. The triage nurse then
advises the caller on the type of care needed.
McKesson Asia-Pacific works with several Australian state health departments to
provide information and advice to callers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – such
as HealthDirect in Western Australia, and NURSE-ON-CALL in Victoria.
We recruit Registered Nurses for our telephone triage programs in Sydney, Melbourne
and Perth, who can either work in our modern call centres, or work from home.
-
Mental health triage and case management
Using telephone technology to deliver quality care
McKesson has developed several specialist mental health programs throughout
Australia and New Zealand. Using experienced and highly trained mental health
nurses, psychologists and social workers, McKesson delivers a wide range of
service, such as:
- - mental health assessment
- - triage and referral
- - counselling
- - case management and follow-up
- - liaison with patients post-hospital discharge
McKesson Asia-Pacific’s mental health programs operate on behalf of clients
such as the Australian Government, several Area Health Services and government
departments in New South Wales and Western Australia. The programs include:
- - National Pregnancy Hotline (Australia)
- - All Hours Support Line (Australia)
- - Program Gambling Hotlines (WA, TAS, NSW)
- - Mental Health Line (New Zealand)
We recruit registered psychologists, social workers and mental health nurses
for our Sydney and Perth offices.
-
Chronic disease and health risk management
Facilitating the self-management of chronic illness
McKesson has implemented chronic disease management programs for a wide range
of conditions, including diabetes, heart failure and respiratory disease (COPD).
Our chronic disease management programs use proactive interventions to slow
the progression of illness, improve quality of like and reduce unnecessary
use of health services. Studies have shown that participation in our diabetes
program reduced inpatient hospitalision and emergency department visits.
McKesson Asia-Pacific operates a number of telephone-based disease management
programs for public and private sector clients in Australia, and we recruit
Registered Nurses for our Disease Management teams in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne.
These positions are office hours with no shift work!
-
Oral/dental health services
Increasing customer access to the public oral health system
McKesson in partnership with the Northern Oral Health Network of NSW provides
a first point of contact for entry into the Public Oral Health System within
the North Coast and Hunter New England Area Health Services.
The program is called the Public Dental Health Line, and it provides Oral health
triage and makes appointments for callers.
The PDHL line operates from our Sydney office, and we recruit and train Customer
Service Representatives to provide the centralised triage and appointment service.
